Ukraine elections and the media

Okay, so I'm sure you all have some idea of what's going on in the Ukraine right now, but the odds are that that picture is quite skewed...there really isn't a good way to fully guage the situation, due to biases inherent in the media. The Guardian is running an article on the double-standard in media coverage of the situation. Though the article obviously has an anti-Yushchenko twist, it's important to realize the disparity in coverage of one 'people's revolution' to the next...it's also a bit strange to see allegations of voter fraud in the Ukraine being more newsworthy than the same allegations here in the states...

In somewhat related news, my favorite online encyclopedia is launching a news service, aimed at neutral, original reporting. Hopefully it can be more mainstream than Indymedia, and less biased than some of the news from Google News. This project has the potential to work really well, though I'm not quite sure how they're going to come up with 'original' reporting that is well-written and not biased... good luck to them anyway!

Wired is running an article (complete with lots of links!) that discusses the government providing less information to citizens, but also the vast amount of information that IS retrievable and out there...

Hey yo,
Jason here just wondering what the deal with Norm Coleman is?

He's a wiener and looks like hell. Hope your turkey day was well. Say hey to anyone that matters.

Peace

Yeah, I was going to post that...it didn't get much coverage at first, but I just read something today about how "Washington doesn't come to Annan's defense" was suddenly a story. I wrote a letter to Norm, too. I'm sure he'll like it. Or not. Anyway, gotta get back to studying the exciting world of capital account liberalization and the inherent instability of capital flows!

Dude, capital account liberalization gives me a pup tent. Okay, no, but good luck with that.

Peace
